The rest of the tour went by fast. It seemed like a dream. I couldn't stop thinking about Rudy. And ten grand! If Kayla could get our hands on that money, we could help our parents out of debt and we'd be practically set for life.
"Are we coming back up here at midnight?" I asked Kayla.
"No way are you kidding?" She whispered harshly. "That guy probably wants to offer us candy and go Michael Jackson on us or something." I looked down and paused to think.
"Well, then I'm not going either." I convinced her.
"Good. And stay away from people like that. They are no good." She warned.
"Yeah I've heard it all before." I said. That was a total lie; all of it. I had never been told to stay away from other people. And I was also not staying home. I was absolutely going to come back to this dump and make ten grand. What was wrong with that? Time passed by fast. Before I knew it, it was ten thirty and I was in my room packing my messenger bag full of things I might need. Food, water the building blocks of life, really. I didn't know how long I would be there so I figured if there was a fridge I could fill it up with food and water. There were my ankle braces incase I had to run, and some napkins since I can be a messy eater. Not to mention my wallet. It couldn't hurt could it? I didn't know how long it would take me to make my way over there, but it was a good half hour drive. So if we were driving at thirty miles an hour the whole time, I could drive there in like ten minutes if I go fifty. I knew I didn't have my license but it's not like I was going to be there all night. I would just have to turn the headlights off as I pull in and out of the driveway.
I was so excited to get out of the house and drive to ten thousand dollars practically waiting for me. I looked at the clock again. It was 11:30? How could time go by so fast? Things were just falling in place tonight. Maybe I was destined to bring my family out of the pit of debt or something. I slipped down the steps with my bag hanging off to the left. I didn't bother to turn on the lights. I wouldn't be using them that long. However I ran into a chair and it made a lot squeak across the floor. That didn't matter though. I jumped into the garage and slammed the door behind me.
"And so the day begins!" I said to myself. I slid into the driver seat. Oh yeah… I need keys. Suddenly the door leading into the house slowly opened. I'm dead. No two ways about it. A hand was made its way out and froze. It was holding the keys and dangled them in front of me. They were playing with me. Then Kayla's head popped around the corner. She revealed herself and walked over to the driver's window.
"Looking for these?" she asked in a snotty way. I rolled my eyes. I was speechless. I might as well go back into my room and forget about this.
"Was…" I responded.
"I am SO telling mom." She turned around and walked toward the door.
"Go ahead…" I choked out. She turned around me and looked at me with confusion.
"What… you don't care?" she asked.
"Of course I care. But there is no way I'm going to get away with this though."
"Yeah, I know, absolutely no way. But I want you to tell me why." She was toying with me!
"Because you're the favorite child."  I spat out. I was shocked by admitting this. And so was Kayla.
"What are you talking about?" she asked.
"You know exactly what I'm talking about. You have always been favored over me, and you use it to your advantage. So you go ahead and tattle on me. But just keep that in mind because that's why they'll believe you." Her jaw dropped. "Yeah. I know; they won't admit it to you, me or themselves, but I'm not stupid. I know exactly what is going on." She looked down.
"I noticed it too. I just didn't think you ever would."
"Well I did." She sighed and walked closer. She went around the side of the car and got in the passenger side. After that, she handed me the keys.
"Let's go see what this Rudy guy wants." I smiled. I stuck the keys in the slot and turned it. It felt so good to hear that purr. I backed out and made my way around our dad's car so we didn't hit it. I swerved left into the road and floored it down the long stretch of a street we lived on. The wind was blowing in through each side filling the car with excitement. I don't know how fast I was going but it was insane.
"Okay, here it is!" Kayla yelled. I spun the wheel to the right where she pointed. We got into the parking lot and there was only one car there.
"I'm guessing that's Rudy's car." I said. Kayla turned and looked at me like I was an idiot. "…that probably what you were thinking…" I continued.
"No, really?" she said sarcastically.
"Okay, I got it. Thanks." I replied. We got out and made our way towards the front door. There was a silhouette standing in front of the door.
"Rudy?" I asked.
"That's me. Ready for your first experiment?" he asked.
"Yeah, just as long as we see the ten grand." Kayla pushed.
"You will see it soon and you will walk out of here with it in ten minutes." Rudy said back. I shrugged.  He opened the door and we walked in. I wasn't paying attention during the whole tour so I had to follow him.
part 3. I wrote a LOT last night so I have to break up the parts in weird parts. :/
